Resources for Educators

Part of my job is to be lucky enough to take part in all kinds of incredible learning opportunities. I hope to currate resources here for other educators to easily access as a way to connect us all.

Will Richardson visited our district in April 2016 and gave us a lot to think about. Watch his TEDEd talk “The Surprising Truth About Learning in Schools” for the Reader’s Digest version of his key messages.

This video is from a recent NPDL session in Seattle, WA in October 2015.  Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills for the OECD spoke to us from Moscow about the OECD’s project Education 2030.  A lot of fantastic information about learning and education in this piece.  What is it that students need to learn?  How are they going to learn it?

“The kinds of things that are easy to teach, easy to test, are also easy to digitize.”

Brene Brown’s work on vulnerability and shame has really made me consider how important it is to build relationships with our students first and foremost and to create classrooms where risk is not only possible, but supported by great compassion and empathy.  These are the “lessons” we need to teach first.  She has a number of great videos on the web.  This is one I listened to very recently and it speaks to the creative process and how to silence all those critics (both inside and out).
